How it works — press the buttons

Two working models, like the exhibits at a power-station visitor centre. The first shows how a phone out in the world reaches a bulb at home — and why we never open a hole in your router to do it. The second is the failover playground: cut the power, crash the Pi, burn things down, and watch who takes over. No marketing gloss — the corners where nothing can save you are on the board too.

Reaching your bulb from the outside world

A home network is a walled garden: the router lets calls out, never uninvited calls in. Pick a path and watch how each one gets around that.

The failover playground

Their home on the left, Vome on the right, you at the top. The Pi runs the home and trickles encrypted backups into the vault; the standby VM can boot from them if the Pi dies. Pick cold or hot standby, then break things — click the machines on the board itself, or use the switches below.

Glowing cables show the active path; moving dots mean data is flowing (a tap, or backups syncing). Everything on the board is clickable. The same diagram shape is planned for a per-server status page when something breaks.

The honest summary: smart homes fail in layers. Local control should survive an internet outage, a standby should survive a dead Pi, off-site backups should survive a fire — and a wall switch and a metal key should survive absolutely everything.
